Ever wonder why you start out to make a change like eating healthier, exercising more, balancing your check book, forgetting about that stressful job or losing weight and even though you are firmly committed to the change, you suddenly find yourself doing something entirely different? How is this possible? How do you decide to do one thing and then find yourself doing something else? The truth is that many of our decisions are not made consciously at all, even though we walk around believing that our conscious mind is in control…..Hmmmmm.
It is being shown in brain scan studies that scientists can predict with accuracy what decisions you are going to make before you are aware you are making them…so our conscious mind, the part of the mind that we (at least most of us) are aware of, isn’t making the decisions at all…but instead, it is being fed the decisions from the other than conscious part of the mind, the part that we are generally unaware of. So you might ask…what then, does the subconscious mind do? Well, it makes up things about why we do things and why things happen. It finds reasons and it makes excuses…it gives us a feeling of certainty about why things happen and it gives us the feeling that it is in control.
So the next time you think you will commit to making a change based on conscious willpower alone, realize that you might be going about it the hard way. Perhaps the wiser avenue would be to invite the subconscious mind to join the party. That is why hypnosis is so cool. It brings new information to the subconscious mind to change those old behaviors and patterns and that is where it all begins.
Life is good.
